Measures Introduced To Reduce Ash Cloud Disruption
Measures introduced to reduce ash cloud disruption by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The Department for Transport has announced a number of steps that are being taken to reduce the risk that the eruption of the Grimsvotn volcano in Iceland will have any further affect on flights to and from the UK.
Test aircraft have been flying to provide information to the Met Office, while British Airways and easyJet have also been working with the meteorological organisation to help improve its model.
Philip Hammond, the transport secretary, has asked National Air Traffic Services and the Civil Aviation Authority to create procedures that would allow flights to operate beneath the ash cloud, should it return at high altitude.
Mr Hammond revealed that the regime introduced following last year"s volcanic ash crisis has already reduced disruption following the latest event.
He added: "I am pleased that, following discussions with the industry and regulators today, we have agreed further steps to reduce potential disruption, should the ash cloud return."
The DfT reassured travellers that the Grimsvotn volcano is no longer erupting and revealed that disruption between now and the end of the weekend is unlikely, based on Met Office forecasts.
