Pata launches disaster recovery taskforce by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The Pacific Asia Travel Association (Pata) has announced plans to launch a taskforce in order to support recovery in countries that are affected by disasters and other unforeseen disruptions.
Bill Calderwood, the association"s chief executive, recently expressed concern over the earthquakes, protests and other crises that have occurred in countries such as Japan, New Zealand and Australia.
As well as having a personal and economic impact, these events can lead to a lack of confidence regarding a destination"s safety.
"Such misperceptions are difficult to dispel and an unwelcome barrier to the recovery of the tourism economy," said Mr Calderwood.
The Pata Rapid Recovery Task Force will provide proactive action plans for the tourism industry and support the sector"s recovery after the crisis has occurred.
Bodies including the UN World Tourism Organisation and World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) will work with Pata to guarantee the quick and accurate dissemination of information by the industry.
WTTC president David Scowsill said: "The WTTC welcomes the opportunity for all global tourism bodies to work together to ensure that complete and accurate information is disseminated across all media and government channels in the event of a natural disaster.
"We are delighted to work with Pata on this initiative."
