Singapore Airlines To Launch Low Cost Carrier
Singapore Airlines to launch low-cost carrier by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Singapore Airlines has announced a plan to launch a new no-frills, low-fares carrier.
The new airline will use wide-body aircraft to operate medium- and long-haul flights, providing more travel options for people exploring south-east Asia and beyond.
Due to be launched within a year, the carrier will be wholly owned by its parent company but managed independently.
Singapore Airlines said it decided to introduce the new operator to serve a "largely untapped" market and cater for rising demand for low-cost flights.
Chief executive Goh Choon Phong said the company is "very excited" to see what the subsidiary will offer to consumers and how it will support the growth of a new market segment.
"As we have observed on short-haul routes within Asia, low-fare airlines help stimulate demand for travel, and we expect this will also prove true for longer flights," he added.
"At the same time we remain fully committed to the further growth of SIA, which will continue to offer the highest-quality products and services to our customers."
Announcements regarding the branding, route network and other aspects of the new carrier will be made in the near future.
