Slovenian castle to celebrate 1,000th anniversary by Cheap Flights Booker UK
One of Slovenia"s best-known landmarks will offer some memorable experiences for visitors this year as it celebrates 1,000 years since its first mention in written records.
Bled Castle is situated on a cliff, 130 metres above a glacial lake, and is described by the national tourist board as "a symbol of Bled and Slovenia".
The first written record of the castle dates back to 1011, when it was known as Castellum Veldesin.
To celebrate the 1,000th anniversary, the site will host special events including a ceremony on 21 and 22 May, with medieval performances, fireworks and visits from Venetian gondolas.
On the first weekend in June, visitors can attend a festival featuring knights, maidens and merchants from Slovenia and abroad, while a mass wedding event on the weekend of 17 to 19 June will see numerous couples getting married simultaneously at the castle.
Travellers planning tours of the European country can begin their trip by catching flights to Ljubljana, which are available with easyJet, Adria Airways, Swiss and other carriers.
