Thai Airways Spending Â9.1bn On New Planes

Thai Airways spending Â9.1bn on new planes by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Thai Airways has announced the purchase of 37 new aircraft due to be delivered between 2011 and 2017, with a further 38 set to follow between 2018 and 2022.

The airline claimed that the deal, at a cost of about £9.1bn, will ensure that it "continues to blaze a trail when it comes to comfort and safety in the skies".

During the first phase of the fleet expansion, the carrier will receive 11 narrow-bodied and 26 wide-bodied aircraft, which will be deployed on intercontinental and regional routes.

The second phase consists of a firm order for 21 planes and an optional order for a further 17.

In a statement announcing the move, the carrier said: "The purchase order clearly demonstrates Thai"s commitment to pioneer, remain commercially competitive, and offer the best service possible to its loyal customers."

Thai Airways also announced a "tentative date" of September 2012 for the launch of the Airbus A380 on flights from London to Bangkok.
