Air Berlin welcomes Boeing 787 to Germany by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Boeing"s 787 Dreamliner arrived in Germany for the first time at the weekend, landing at Berlin-Tegel airport on the morning of 25 June.
The Boeing test aircraft ZA001 was welcomed by Air Berlin - which will be the first German carrier to take delivery of the Dreamliner - as well as representatives of Boeing and Berlin Airports.
Joachim Hunold, chief executive of the airline, said the addition of the 787 will provide a significant boost for the efficiency of the company"s fleet.
"We are proud to be the first German airline to receive the Boeing 787 Dreamliner," he commented.
"With a specific fuel consumption of 3.6 litres per 100 passenger kilometres, the Air Berlin fleet already ranks among the most efficient in Europe. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner also sets new standards in the area of fuel efficiency."
As the first medium-sized aircraft for long-haul flights, the new plane will bridge a gap in the aviation industry, according to Dr Rainer Schwarz, chief executive of Berlin Airports.
The first Boeing 787 in Air Berlin livery is due to be delivered to the airline in April 2014, with a further 17 planes set to be added to the carrier"s fleet by August 2019.
