Airport Checkpoint Of The Future Unveiled
Airport "checkpoint of the future" unveiled by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The International Air Transport Association (Iata) has announced details of what it describes as the airport "checkpoint of the future".
Featuring three lanes that will handle passengers based on their potential security risk - marked "known traveller", "normal" and "enhanced security" - the checkpoint will boost safety while reducing queues and intrusive searches, according to Iata.
The determination of the potential risk posed by individuals will be based on biometric information in passports and other travel documents.
Screening technology is also being developed to allow passengers to walk through the checkpoint without removing clothes or unpacking their belongings.
Iata is working with international governments to define standards for the new system and plan its introduction.
Giovanni Bisignani, director general of the association, said travellers should be able to make their way through the airport safely and "with dignity".
He added: "We have the ability to move to the biometric scanning and three-lane concept right now.
"And while some of the technology still needs to be developed, even by just re-purposing what we have today, we could see major changes in two or three years" time."
