BA raises Â1.3m for Comic Relief in first year of partnership by Cheap Flights Booker UK
In celebration of the one-year anniversary of its collaboration with Comic Relief, British Airways has revealed that it has raised £1.3m for the charity in the past 12 months.
The Flying Start partnership, which aims to improve the lives of disadvantaged children in the UK and around the world, has seen BA staff and famous figures taking part in a range of fundraising initiatives.
Among the most high-profile events was a comedy show at 35,000 feet featuring Dara O"Briain, Jack Whitehall and Jon Richardson, which set a new world record for the highest ever stand-up gig.
The airline"s employees have taken on challenges including aircraft pulls, men"s leg waxing sessions and a motorbike ride to Madrid and back in five days.
A charity team representing BA have visited destinations such as London, Cape Town and Kenya to see how the funds raised are being put to good use.
Mary Barry, the airline"s community investment manager, said: "We would like to thank our customers, celebrity supporters and hard-working teams throughout British Airways for raising more than £1.3m for Comic Relief over the past year. It is a fantastic achievement.
"Together we hope to bring lasting change to the lives of some of the poorest and most vulnerable people here in the UK and across the world."
