New campaign to give visitors "more excuses" to head back to Melbourne by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Melbourne residents are being encouraged to share their top tourism tips with both foreigners and their fellow Australians.

According to a new study carried out by the Fairfax Media Group, the Victorian state capital is now Australia"s leading internal holiday destination, beating both the Gold Coast and long-time rival Sydney to the top spot.

However, refusing to rest on their laurels, the state"s tourism bosses have launched a new initiative they hope will see the city"s locals share their top tips for places to see, eat, drink or visit with prospective tourists from all over the world.

As well as encouraging people to head to Melbourne for the first time, it is also hoped that this new initiative will prompt many others to return by "giving them excuses" to head back.

"One of our challenges is that people think they know Melbourne - but in fact there is a lot more to discover," Tourism Victoria marketing director Don Richter said of the thinking behind this new drive.

Meanwhile, over in Sydney, plans are being put forward to start using an Austrlian Navy base to welcome cruise ships to the city.
