World Tourism Day to celebrate "linking cultures" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) has announced that "linking cultures" will be the theme of World Tourism Day 2011.
Scheduled for 27 September, the occasion will highlight the important role that international travel plays in bringing together the various cultures of the world and promoting global understanding.
The UNWTO noted that some 940m people visited a foreign country in 2010, coming into contact with a range of both tangible and intangible culture, from artworks and monuments to music and food.
World Tourism Day will celebrate this interaction and aim to boost understanding of diversity.
UNWTO chairman Taleb Rifai said: "Culture is one of our most precious assets and needs protecting.
"As we launch World Tourism Day 2011, I call on all people to conduct tourism in a way that preserves and enriches the cultural wealth of the world for future generations."
The organisation recently announced that it would be working with the Tunisian government to support the development of tourism in the country.
