Canary Islands Welcoming More Holidaymakers
Canary Islands welcoming more holidaymakers by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Holiday hotspots such as Tenerife and Lanzarote in the Canary Islands have been proving increasingly popular this year, according to figures released by AENA, the Spanish airport authority.
Statistics for the first six months of 2011 show that Tenerife welcomed 25% more foreign visitors than in the same period last year, while Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria experienced increases of 39% and 20% respectively.
In Lanzarote, total overseas arrivals climbed by 20%, while the number of Britons heading to the island in the first half of this year rose by 13% compared to 2010.
For Spain as a whole, the number of tourists arriving from abroad was up 8% year-on-year.
The country and its various regions and islands have benefited from recent unrest in north Africa and the Middle East, which led to fewer travellers visiting countries such as Egypt and Tunisia.
Islands like Tenerife and Lanzarote are well known for their beaches and holiday resorts, as well as natural sights and attractions such as the Mount Teide and Timanfaya national parks.
