More UK tourists heading abroad by Cheap Flights Booker UK

There was an increase in the number of UK residents holidaying overseas in the three months to May, according to government figures.

Office for National Statistics data showed that the number of visits abroad by UK travellers rose by 11% to 14.5mn compared to the previous three months.

On an annual basis, overseas visits were up 7% compared to May 2010.

Fewer people headed to Europe during the period, with visits down 1% to 43.5mn, while more people holidayed further afield.

Indeed, visits to North America rose 2% to 3.6mn and visits to other parts of the world also increased by 2% to 8.9mn.

Holidaymakers also spent more during their overseas trips, with total spending by UK residents overseas rising 7% to £7.8bn.

Overseas visits may increase even further in the months ahead, as recent data from SEO consultancy firm Greenlight revealed a substantial increase in holiday-related internet searches as people look to get away.
