Tourists Heading To Scottish Distilleries

Tourists heading to Scottish distilleries by Cheap Flights Booker UK

More than one million tourists visited Scotland"s world-famous whiskey distilleries over the course of 2010, with the national drink establishing itself as a significant source of income for the country.

According to the latest figures published by the Scotch Whiskey Association (SWA), the country"s 52 distilleries open to the public welcomed some 1.3 million people over the period, boosting the national coffers by around £37 million and supporting hundreds of jobs.

The figures were compiled by 4-Consulting and showed that 86% of tourists came from outside of Scotland, while 62% were not from the UK.

Indeed, the drink has been singled out as one of Scotland"s biggest attractions for international travellers, including whisky-loving Chinese tourists.

Commenting, the SWA"s Campbell Evans said: "Scotch whisky and tourism can be seen as the perfect blend and complement one another."

Earlier this month, the Financial Times reported that Chinese women are significantly more likely than their western counterparts to buy whiskey, with certain Scottish brands seen as the ultimate luxury.
