Transport Secretary Proposes New Airport Security Rules
Transport secretary proposes new airport security rules by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Long queues at airport security could be a thing of the past if new proposals put forward by the transport secretary are given the go-ahead.
Philip Hammond said he wants to modernise the way in which aviation security is regulated and scrap the current one-size-fits-all rules.
"Our current system can place significant financial burdens on the aviation industry along with inconvenience to passengers," he remarked.
"I think we can do better, with a new regime which maintains and improves security standards but in a more efficient and passenger-friendly way."
Under the proposals, airports would have the freedom to design their own security systems and measures to meet the needs of their customers.
They would be allowed to adopt appropriate new technology and use it in a way that suits their particular business model.
Those airports with the most robust systems will win even greater autonomy, although oversight procedures will be put in place to make sure security standards are not compromised, Mr Hammond insisted.
