Estonia "has great appeal for British and Irish travellers" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Estonia"s national tourism agency has highlighted the country"s appeal for British and Irish travellers, on the back of figures showing a substantial increase in visitor numbers in the first half of 2011.
More than 30,300 people from the UK and Ireland visited the eastern European nation in the first six months of the year, staying for nearly 36,000 nights.
The figures mark a 90% increase in guest numbers compared to the same period in 2010 and a 96% rise in overnight stays.
Growth in direct flights to Tallinn has played a significant part in the success of the local tourism industry, with easyJet recently introducing a new route to the city from Liverpool.
Estonian Air offers four weekly services to the capital from London Gatwick during the summer.
Tarmo Mutso, director of the national tourist board, said: "Estonia and the capital city Tallinn appeal greatly to British and Irish guests for our great variety of historical and cultural activities, the unspoilt countryside, national parks, attractive towns and villages, beautiful beaches and spa resorts which draw in city break guests, birdwatchers, walkers, hikers, watersports enthusiasts and those looking for peace and relaxation."
As a European Capital of Culture, Tallinn is hosting more than 7,000 special exhibitions and events this year.
