Florida has been proving an increasingly popular destination among international travellers this year, according to figures from the regional tourist board.
Visit Florida revealed that the state welcomed 2.2m overseas visitors in the second quarter of 2011, 17.3% more than in the same period last year.
Overall, approximately 21.2m people travelled to this part of America between April and June 2011, marking a year-on-year increase of 6.9%.
State governor Rick Scott described tourism as "a cornerstone of the Florida economy" and said he was "greatly encouraged" by the increase in visitor numbers this year.
Tony Lapi, chairman of the board of directors for the state tourism agency, said: "There are more people working in Florida tourism than any other industry.
"Florida is the number one travel destination in the world because of the hospitality and professionalism of over 1m tourism industry employees who provide an unparalleled vacation experience for our visitors."
People planning a trip to the state can head to Orlando to visit world-famous attractions such as Walt Disney World, the Universal resort and SeaWorld.
