Glasgow Prestwick "one of Facebook"s most popular UK airports" by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Glasgow Prestwick has claimed that it is now one of the most popular UK airports on Facebook, following an initiative to boost its profile on the social networking website.

The base launched a competition on the site that was won by Glaswegians Frazer MacRobert and Garry Molloy, who received an all-expenses-paid holiday in Ibiza worth £2,000.

Spokesperson Nicola Clark said Glasgow Prestwick wanted to exploit the potential of Facebook to highlight the airport "in a fun way".

"We visited Glasgow city centre, various shopping centres, holiday shows and Ayr County Fair, where we pictured over 300 people holding one of our destination boards they had chosen," she added.

"The pictures were uploaded onto Facebook. People found their photo, tagged themselves in the picture and then got all their friends to "like" their picture."

Messrs MacRobert and Molloy won the competition after receiving more than 700 "likes".

Several major UK airlines are also represented on Facebook, including British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and easyJet.
