Heathrow experiences busiest month on record by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Airport operator BAA has announced that London Heathrow experienced its busiest ever month in July, with a record 6.9m travellers passing through the hub.
Sunday 31 July was the busiest day on record at the airport, while seven of the top ten days for passenger numbers at Heathrow occurred last month.
Another record was set in terms of efficiency, with 84.7% of all available aircraft seats filled in July.
Over the last 12 months, total passenger numbers at London Heathrow exceeded 68.5m for the first time.
Colin Matthews, chief executive of BAA, said: "The growth in passenger traffic at Heathrow in July is good news for UK jobs, tourism and growth. Heathrow"s unique role in linking the UK to the world"s emerging markets is vital to Britain"s economic recovery.
"Heathrow"s performance was also good news for the thousands of families setting off on their summer holiday."
The entire BAA network of six UK airports - Heathrow, Stansted, Southampton, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen - handled some 11m passengers during the month, marking a year-on-year increase of 0.8%.
Across the group, flights to North America were the most popular option, with passenger numbers up 5.6% compared to July last year.
