Luton airport welcomes more than 1m passengers in July by Cheap Flights Booker UK
London Luton airport has announced that it handled more than 1m passengers in July 2011 - 9% more than in the same month last year.
The base welcomed some 948,218 people on scheduled flights and 72,172 customers on charter services.
Several carriers based at Luton, including Monarch Airlines, have supported the growth by launching new routes and increasing their passenger numbers.
Flights to Mallorca were the most popular option among people embarking on journeys from the airport in July, while routes to Budapest and Malaga also saw high demand.
Managing director Glyn Jones said: "More business and holiday travellers have come through London"s fastest-growing major airport due to the competitive airline partnerships we have attracted.
"We are now focused on further improving our infrastructure to ensure higher quality of service for our higher volumes of passengers."
The release of figures for July follows Luton"s announcement of results for the first half of the year, showing that the airport increased passenger numbers by 11.3% during the six-month period.
