Travellers set to benefit from new US airline rules by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Travellers catching flights to and from the US look set to see the benefit of new regulations being introduced by the country"s transportation department.
The rules, which are due to take effect from tomorrow (23 August), have been designed to protect the rights of airline passengers and ensure that services are fair and transparent.
Among the biggest introductions are potential fines for carriers of up to $27,500 (£16,670) per passenger if international flights are left sitting on the runway for more than four hours without taking off.
More regulations will come into effect in January 2012, forcing airlines to include all government taxes and fees in their advertised fares and notify passengers of cancellations or delays of more than 30 minutes at the boarding gate, online or by phone.
Companies will also be prohibited from raising prices after a ticket has been bought, unless the increase is caused by government taxes or fees and the customer agrees to the change.
The new initiatives have been welcomed by groups including the Business Travel Coalition, whose chairman Kevin Mitchell told USA Today: "I think the new rules on balance are good and sweeping."
