United And Continental Investing $550m In Fleet Improvements

United and Continental investing $550m in fleet improvements by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Travellers flying with Continental and United Airlines are set to see the benefit of a major fleet investment plan being launched by the carriers" parent company.

United Continental Holdings announced that it will be spending $550m (£334m) on improvements such as adding flat-bed seating to 62 additional long-haul planes.

Passengers will also benefit from an almost twofold increase in overhead storage on more than 150 planes and wireless internet access on another 200 aircraft.

Furthermore, United Continental Holdings will be boosting its fleet with the introduction of 25 airliners next year, with the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner among the planned additions.

President and chief executive Jeff Smisek said the company is "making very good progress building the world"s leading airline".

He added: "When we announced our merger, we committed to building an airline that our co-workers would want to work for, our customers would want to fly and our investors would want to invest in.

"These product enhancements announced today, coupled with our unbeatable route network and loyalty programme, will provide an unsurpassed travel experience for our customers."
