Liverpool Airport Sees Busiest Ever Month
Liverpool airport sees busiest ever month by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The summer holiday rush carried Liverpool John Lennon airport (JLA) to its busiest month on record in August.
Operator Peel Airports announced that more than 580,000 travellers passed through the base, breaking the previous record of just over 575,000 set in August 2007.
During the August bank holiday weekend alone, approximately 81,000 people set off on journeys from JLA on 568 flights.
A number of factors contributed to the success, including access to more summer sun destinations than ever before with low-cost operators such as easyJet.
Travellers have also been showing more demand for KLM"s flights to Amsterdam, which open up connections to the airline"s global network of long-haul destinations.
Craig Richmond, chief executive of Peel Airports, said: "Even we have been surprised by the levels of growth seen in passenger numbers choosing to fly off during the summer months from Liverpool.
"Two weeks in the sun clearly remains very important for families in particular throughout the north-west, despite the recession."
