Qantas has initiated a $250m (£163m) project to fit nine Boeing 747-400 aircraft with Airbus A380-style seats and entertainment units.
A total of 364 seats - 58 in business class, 36 in premium economy and 270 in economy - will be installed on each plane, along with Panasonic on-demand entertainment for every passenger and a self-service snack bar in economy.
The first reconfigured Boeing 747 will be deployed on flights between Brisbane and Los Angeles in October and the remaining eight aircraft will be launched across the carrier"s international network by the end of 2012.
Qantas said that the fleet investment is part of the company"s five-year plan to create a "modern, customer-focused and competitive global airline business".
Chief executive Alan Joyce said: "The new interiors will vastly improve the flying experience for tens of thousands of Qantas passengers every year.
"Installing A380-style interiors on these B747 aircraft will provide passengers with more style, more comfort, more space and more entertainment."
The Australian airline launched the Airbus A380 in October 2008 and uses the plane to operate flights from London to Sydney and Melbourne, among other services.
