Quarter Of Over 55s Consider Gap Year Getaways
Quarter of over-55s "consider gap year getaways" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Gap year getaways are no longer the preserve of the young, according to figures released by Post Office Travel Insurance showing that a quarter (25%) of people over the age of 55 are currently considering a gap year or extended break.
This compares to about a fifth (19%) of students.
Younger travellers are more likely to take longer trips, according to the research, while their older counterparts are willing to spend more money to ensure they get good accommodation and make the most of their time away.
Australia and New Zealand emerged as the most popular destinations for over-55s planning an extended overseas adventure, followed by the US, Singapore and Spain.
Sarah Munro, head of travel insurance for the Post Office, said: "Age shouldn"t be a barrier when it comes to experiencing different cultures and spreading your wings.
"Whilst holidays are a fantastic way to explore a new country, taking that extra bit of time out to travel and really get to grips with a place is great fun no matter how old you are."
