Beach getaways voted most popular holiday option by Cheap Flights Booker UK

An old-fashioned getaway to a beach destination is the type of holiday that Britons most look forward to, according to a recent survey.

Nearly four out of ten (37%) respondents opted for beach holidays when asked about the travel options that excite them most, while city breaks (17%) and cultural escapes (11%) took second and third places in the list.

In its 2011 Consumer Trends survey, travel industry association Abta also found that 42% of Brits most enjoy going away with their family.

Just over a third (35%) prefer to take holidays with their partner and 16% like travelling with friends, according to the study.

Men appear to be more willing to embark on a solo trip, with 9% of male respondents saying they enjoy breaks on their own, compared to only 2% of women.

Abta chief executive Mark Tanzer said: "Our customers" ideal holiday choices are incredibly wide and varied and our survey gives a fascinating insight into what they like to do and who they like to share their ideal holiday experiences with."
