British Airways among winners at Golden Backpack Awards by Cheap Flights Booker UK

British Airways was among the winners at the inaugural Golden Backpack Awards UK event, which took place at Shaka Zulu in London on Wednesday (12 October).

The carrier was named the adventure, backpacking and youth travel market"s favourite long-haul airline ahead of Emirates and Qantas.

EasyJet was recognised in the category covering short-haul operators, while bmi and Turkish Airlines were both nominated.

The awards programme encompassed a total of 19 categories, covering everything from airlines and accommodation to transport providers and tour operators.

Winners were chosen on the basis of votes cast by TNT readers through live and online campaigns.

TNT Multimedia chief executive Kevin Ellis said the company was "thrilled" to launch the initiative in the UK, following its successful run in Australia.

He added: "This is the only dedicated awards for our market and who better to vote than the people who genuinely go on these holidays: our readers."
