EasyJet Welcomes Edinburgh Airport Sale
EasyJet welcomes Edinburgh airport sale by Cheap Flights Booker UK
EasyJet has welcomed the announcement from BAA that it plans to sell Edinburgh airport.
The airport operator was ordered by the Competition Commission to put one of its Scottish bases - either Edinburgh or Glasgow - up for sale in order to reduce its dominance in the industry.
Preparations for the sale are now underway, with a view to agreeing a deal by summer next year.
BAA chief executive Colin Matthews described Edinburgh as "a great airport with a great team and a great future" and said the company would be sorry to see it go.
Hugh Aitken, easyJet"s commercial manager for Scotland, said the airline welcomed the news and is looking forward to working with the new owners.
He added: "Edinburgh airport is hugely important to easyJet"s network and we firmly believe increased competition will improve Edinburgh and Glasgow airports and our aim to make travel easy and affordable."
The carrier"s network from the Scottish capital includes flights to Amsterdam, Paris, Athens and Madrid, among other cities.
