Sydney is the leading location for "Elvis passengers" looking for a change of scenery during the winter, according to the airline, ahead of Cape Town, Hong Kong, Miami and Barbados.

Virgin spokeswoman Laura Hutcheson said: "There"s nothing like getting onboard an aircraft to leave emotional baggage behind.

"Jetting off on a holiday is now regarded as the perfect remedy for thousands of disappointed lovers every year."
