Govt must act on airport capacity, says BA by Cheap Flights Booker UK

British Airways has called on the government to take positive action regarding the lack of hub airport capacity in south-east England.

In its response to a consultation on the development of a sustainable framework for UK aviation, the airline pointed out that the industry supports more than 900,000 jobs and provides vital transport links for businesses and individuals.

The company said that London has been established as one of the world"s leading international air travel hubs but warned that the lack of new capacity puts the city at risk of falling behind foreign competitors.

BA chief executive Keith Williams called on the government to "take action now".

He added: "There are no easy choices, but avoiding these choices is to undermine the UK aviation and aerospace industry and to hinder the economic recovery."

The airline claimed that it is possible for the industry to grow while adhering to its environmental obligations thanks to measures such as the EU emissions trading scheme.

BA has set a target of reducing its own net carbon emissions by 50% before 2050.
