North Queensland to feature in Neighbours by Cheap Flights Booker UK
North Queensland could enjoy a tourism boost next year after featuring in Neighbours, the long-running Australian soap opera that has built up a strong fan base in the UK.
Port Douglas and the Great Barrier Reef region will be showcased in a storyline focusing on the character of Kate Ramsay, who meets a local marine biologist during a holiday in north Queensland.
A series of episodes due to air globally in February 2012 will highlight some of the activities on offer in this part of Australia, such as seeing the Great Barrier Reef, exploring the Daintree rainforest and visiting the shoreline of Port Douglas.
Doug Ryan, head of tourism in the area, noted that Neighbours is arguably Australia"s biggest national television export, with 10m regular viewers around the world, including 1.5m in the UK.
Commenting on the forthcoming holiday storyline, he said: "The timing couldn"t be better.
"Just as the UK and northern Europe enters the depths of winter, Neighbours will project vibrant reef scenes, stunning rainforests and the iconic charm of the tropics right into their lounge rooms."
