Spain named most affordable half-term destination by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Britons looking forward to a half-term getaway in Spain next week will be happy to hear that the country has been named the most affordable destination for a holiday during the school break.

Post Office Travel Money found that holidaymakers will get most for their money on the Costa del Sol despite the fact that sterling currently buys the same amount of euros as last year, compared to 27% more Turkish lira and 21% more Kenyan shillings.

Exchange rate fluctuations over the past year mean that Turkey is now 12% cheaper and Kenya 7% more affordable for Brits than in October 2010.

Prices have also fallen in Dubai, Malta and the Egyptian resort of Sharm el Sheikh.

Phuket in Thailand was ranked the second cheapest destination for a "basket" of ten tourist items, while Sharm el Sheikh, the Florida city of Orlando and Paphos in Cyprus completed the top five.

Sarah Munro, head of Post Office Travel Money, said: "Price is bound to be a big consideration so it is good to report falling prices in five of the destinations that attract UK families."
