US triumphs at Telegraph Travel Awards by Cheap Flights Booker UK

The US was among the winners in this year"s Telegraph Travel Awards programme, picking up the title of favourite country worldwide ahead of runners-up New Zealand and Australia.

The Telegraph polled some 23,000 of its readers to find their top destinations, airlines and travel companies, with the winners being revealed at a ceremony at London"s St Pancras Renaissance hotel.

Italy was named the best European holiday country ahead of France and Spain, while the honour for the leading UK city went to London, with Edinburgh and Bath filling the runners-up spots.

In the categories covering airlines, British Airways picked up an accolade for its short-haul operations and Emirates beat Virgin Atlantic and Singapore Airlines to the long-haul award.

Also among the winners was the Savoy in London (favourite UK hotel) and Villa d"Este in Lake Como, Italy (favourite hotel worldwide).
