Abta: More travellers want environmental holiday ratings by Cheap Flights Booker UK
One in three UK consumers now think that holidays should have an environmental rating similar to the star system for hotels, according to Abta.
The travel industry association released survey results showing that the number of people supporting the idea has increased from 29% in 2010 to 33% this year.
Nearly four in ten (38%) female respondents agreed that holidays should be rated on their environmental credentials, along with almost half (49%) of the group dubbed "cosmopolitans" - people who take the most holidays a year and adopt new trends early.
Some 19% of consumers polled said they would be prepared to pay more for a holiday provided by a company with a good record for eco-friendliness and social responsibility.
Soren Stober, business manager for Travelife, a certification scheme for hotels and holiday accommodation, said: "These findings back up research from the same survey that more and more people are expecting holiday companies to be both socially and environmentally responsible."
Some 17,000 properties are currently registered with Travelife and more than 500 have received a bronze, silver or gold award.
