Accommodation in Ireland "among cheapest in Europe" by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Ireland is a good option for travellers who are looking for good value for money from their accommodation, according to the regional tourist board.

John Lahiffe, publicity manager at Tourism Ireland, said the agency believes that hotels and other lodgings in the country are currently among the cheapest in Europe.

He also pointed out that travellers can limit the cost of their breaks by searching for bargains and special offers.

"There are deals with nearly every hotel and restaurants have certainly come around to that way of thinking as well," said Mr Lahiffe. "There are early bird meals, special two and three-course prices, things like that."

The Tourism Ireland spokesman noted that the recession brought about a "complete turnaround" in the way hoteliers and restaurants went about attracting business, as customers began to spend their money more carefully.

A new marketing initiative launched last month will see some €9m (£7.74m) invested in attracting more travellers to Irish destinations.

The campaign, which is expected to reach up to 20m potential foreign visitors, will include participation from airlines including Aer Lingus, Emirates, Flybe and Virgin Atlantic.
