People planning a trip to Japan early next year could arrange their holiday to coincide with the 2012 Sapporo Snow Festival, which will run from 6 to 12 February.

About 2m people come to the city of Sapporo every year to see an impressive array of snow statues and ice sculptures in Odori Park, Community Dome Tsudome and the main street in Susukino.
