BA to extend use of iPads after successful trial by Cheap Flights Booker UK
British Airways (BA) has announced an airline-wide rollout of iPads as a customer service tool following a successful trial of the tablet computers involving 100 senior crew members.
Thousands of the devices will be issued to staff from next week.
The iPads feature specially developed software and apps allowing crew to access a range of information and details about passengers, including individual preferences and previous travel arrangements.
Frank van der Post, managing director of brands and customer experience for BA, said the potential for future development of the handheld tool is "endless", adding that the new initiative is "only the beginning".
He continued: "Once the rollout has been completed, our crew worldwide will be able to offer a premium and more thoughtful onboard service to customers in every cabin."
On the carrier"s business class flights to New York JFK from London City airport, staff will be able to access live updates on the iPads thanks to a facility enabling internet access during transatlantic journeys.
Over the next five years, BA plans to invest some £5bn in new technologies, as well as aircraft, cabin upgrades and lounges.
