European airports making progress in carbon reduction by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Airports Council International (ACI) Europe has released a report indicating that air travel hubs across the continent are making progress in reducing their carbon output.
Several bases have been recognised by the Airport Carbon Accreditation scheme for the first time, including Geneva and Rome-Leonardo da Vinci, both of which have achieved the "optimisation" level of certification.
Nice Cote d"Azur has received endorsement at the programme"s "mapping" stage, while Stockholm-Arlanda and Bromma airports in Sweden have reached the highest tier, "neutrality".
London Heathrow has also been acknowledged by the Airport Carbon Accreditation initiative at the "optimisation" level of certification for the second year in a row.
Olivier Jankovec, director general of ACI Europe, revealed that there are now 46 accredited bases across 17 countries, handling half of the continent"s air passenger traffic.
He added: "Their focus on lowering their carbon footprint is making serious headway, as the number of airports certified at each of the various levels of the programme attests."
