Japan Launches Golf Tourism Drive
Japan launches golf tourism drive by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Golf enthusiasts are being encouraged to consider a holiday in Japan as part of a campaign launched by the country"s tourism agency.
The first step in the Japan National Tourism Organisation"s drive to promote this aspect of the nation"s visitor offering was exhibiting at the International Golf Travel Market, which took place in Belek, Turkey earlier this month.
There were more than 1,200 attendees at the event, including 450 exhibitors and 350 buyers.
Japan"s potential for golf holidays was recently highlighted by Peter Walton, chief executive of the International Association of Golf Tour Operators, following a trip to the country earlier this year.
Mr Walton described it as a "wonderful" destination for the sport, with combinations of culture, scenic surroundings, good food, wine and sake.
He added: "There is a common perception that golf in Japan is expensive, but in fact, particularly in Hokkaido, the green fees vary enormously and perhaps most interesting of all is that the restaurants, bars and other commodities are reasonably priced."
The country is home to some 2,400 golf courses, second only to the US around the world.
Previous campaigns launched by the JNTO have focused on themes such as skiing holidays and the tropical Okinawa islands.
