La Plagne announces 2011-12 winter events by Cheap Flights Booker UK

The ski holiday resort of La Plagne in France has announced details of some of the events that visitors will be able to attend during the 2011-12 winter season.

Holidaymakers can join in with the celebrations of the destination"s 50th anniversary, which will be marked on 21 December with live shows, a visual display exploring the history of skiing and more.

People planning to spend New Year"s Eve in the resort can head to the Plagne-Bellecote area, which will be transformed into a giant dancefloor on 31 December.

Next year, La Plagne will provide the setting for events including the Ice Climbing World Cup, which is scheduled for 3 and 4 February.

Competitors will show their climbing skills on the 22-metre permanent ice tower that stands in Champagny en Vanoise.

Another highlight to look out for is the Urban Plagne Festival, which will include mountain-themed film screenings and a challenge asking professional skiers and snowboarders to create a short film showcasing their best freestyle tricks and moves.

The event, which is set to return for its fifth outing in 2012, will take place from 9 to 15 April.
