Lonely Planet: Travellers showing more interest in Middle East by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The coming years will see travellers showing more interest in the Middle East, according to Lonely Planet.
Tom Hall, one of the publisher"s contributors, said that people are still planning trips to the more stable destinations in the region, despite the recent political protests and unrest in countries like Egypt and Tunisia.
Muscat, the capital of Oman, was listed as one of the top ten cities to visit next year in Lonely Planet"s Best in Travel 2012 guide.
Mr Hall highlighted the destination as a "great example" of the Middle East"s potential.
"Muscat has a huge amount of history [and] a lot of heritage with the port, which has been a world trading post for centuries," he said.
The Lonely Planet spokesman also referred to the city"s expanding portfolio of resorts and new opera house as symbols of its growth.
Another Middle Eastern state that has managed to keep itself separate from the recent civil unrest is the United Arab Emirates, which travellers can reach by taking flights to Dubai.
