Prince Williams Arrival To Boost Falklands Tourism
Prince William"s arrival "to boost Falklands tourism" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The news that Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, is being posted to the Falkland Islands is expected to provide a significant boost for the local tourism industry.
A 200% increase in visitor numbers has already been recorded on the Falkland Islands Tourist Board"s consumer website.
Paul Trowell, general manager of the promotional agency, said the news has created global publicity for the destination and described the immediate surge of interest as "really exciting".
"We expect the Duke"s visit to boost the profile of the destination and we anticipate a rise in visitor arrivals from the UK off the back of his visit announcement," he added.
Prince William"s six-week posting in February and March next year will coincide with the 30th anniversary of the British-Argentine conflict relating to sovereignty over the islands.
Situated 400 miles off the south-eastern tip of South America, the Falklands are popular among travellers hoping to see local wildlife such as penguins, seals, killer whales and birds.
