Air France helps fight against deforestation in Madagascar by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Air France has announced that a project to tackle deforestation in Madagascar is seeing "positive and concrete results".
In partnership with the GoodPlanet Foundation and the WWF, the airline has supported the initiative with investment of €5m (£4.3m) over the past three years.
The conservation programme relates to more than 500,000 hectares of forest in Madagascar and aims to develop new protected areas, restore damaged parts of the forest and train local people in new farming methods and ways of managing their land.
Achievements so far include the creation of some 350,000 hectares of protected territory and the restoration of 25,000 hectares of terrain across Madagascar.
Bertrand Lebel, Air France"s executive vice president for organisation and sustainable development, said the airline decided to support the project owing to its scientific rigour and the involvement of local communities.
"Air France hopes that this programme, whose results are conclusive, remains sustainable with the involvement of new public and private partners," he added.
