Awards celebrate best in travel writing by Cheap Flights Booker UK

The third British Travel Press Awards event was held in London this week, recognising the best in travel writing, photography and broadcasting.

Lonely Planet Magazine picked up the accolade for the best consumer publication, while both the Mail on Sunday and Time Out received recognition for their travel sections.

An award was presented to the Guardian for the quality of its online resources for travellers and the Istanbul Select publication from Insight Guides was named guidebook of the year.

Senior travel editors, who took part in the judging process, chose the Savoy hotel in London as the recipient for this year"s accolade for environmental achievements.

Michael East of Kingley Event Management, the company that created the awards programme, said the media is "hugely important" to the travel industry but is rarely recognised for its contributions.

He added: "The British Travel Press Awards have received tremendous support from the industry, as witnessed from all of the judges and sponsors who have supported the awards."
