Etihad Boosts Network Following Air Berlin Deal
Etihad boosts network following Air Berlin deal by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Etihad Airways has expanded its international flight network to encompass 269 destinations after purchasing a stake in Air Berlin.
The airline claimed that it now provides routes to about 80 more destinations than any other carrier based in the Gulf region.
As part of its agreement with Air Berlin, Etihad will operate codeshare agreements with the airline group for all activities and services across Europe.
Chief executive officer James Hogan said the Abu Dhabi-based carrier"s extensive range of international destinations and codeshare deals helps to distinguish it from competitors.
He also stated that the Gulf region is becoming "the centre of the world" in terms of aviation.
"We are happy that with one booking we are able, either directly or with codeshare partners, to allow our guests to take full advantage of this geography," added Mr Hogan.
Earlier this month, Etihad expanded its network with the launch of a scheduled route linking Abu Dhabi to Chengdu in south-west China, which is currently being served by four non-stop flights every week.
