Iceland Set For Bumper Tourism Year In 2012
Iceland set for "bumper tourism year" in 2012 by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Iceland"s national tourist board has predicted that 2012 will be a "bumper year" for travel to the country.
The organisation highlighted a number of factors that bode well for the future of tourism in Iceland, including significant increases in visitor numbers this year compared to 2010.
In November 2011, more than 5,000 UK travellers visited Iceland, marking a 20% increase on the 4,300 people recorded in the same month last year.
During the first 11 months of the year, visitor arrivals in the country climbed by 11%.
Iceland has also received recognition from the Sunday Times Travel Magazine, whose readers named it the best adventure travel destination, and National Geographic Traveler, which included the nation in its Best of the World 2012 guide.
The local tourism industry will benefit from some new openings and developments next year, including the Hotel Reykjavik Marina, a new addition to Icelandair"s growing portfolio, which is due to begin welcoming guests in April.
