Never-before-seen Banksy work to be shown in Liverpool by Cheap Flights Booker UK
People with a passion for contemporary art could soon be arranging flights and booking hotels in Liverpool to check out a never-before-seen sculpture by Banksy, the renowned graffiti artist.
Cardinal Sin is an 18th-century replica stone bust that has had its face removed and replaced by a selection of bathroom tiles, creating the impression of a pixellated portrait.
It is thought to be a comment on abuse scandals in the Church and subsequent cover-ups.
The piece has been loaned indefinitely by the artist and will go on display at the Walker Art Gallery on William Brown Street in Liverpool.
It will be presented in one of the institution"s 17th-century Old Master galleries alongside church altarpieces and religious sculptures.
Reyahn King, art galleries director for National Museums Liverpool, said the group was "thrilled" to display the work of such an important contemporary artist.
"It is a huge coup and we"re sure his work will spark a reaction with visitors," he added.
"Banksy specified that it be shown alongside our period collection and we were very happy to oblige."
The Walker Art Gallery is also home to works by the likes of Rubens, Rembrandt and Gainsborough.
