Puerto Rico set to open new tourism region by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC) has announced details of a new region being developed on the island"s north coast to provide attractions and activities for travellers.
Porta Atlantico will be home to amenities such as the island"s first six-star hotel, the Dorado Beach Ritz Carlton Reserve, which is due to open in December 2012.
One of the main draws of the region is the Rio Camuy Cave Park, which is thought to be the third-largest cave system in the world.
Visitors can also head to the Arecibo Observatory, which is home to the world"s largest and most sensitive radio telescope and was used as a location during the filming of the James Bond movie GoldenEye.
PRTC executive director Mario Gonzalez Lafuente said the creation of an area like Porta Atlantico guarantees job creation and long-term economic development.
He added: "The municipal support, in partnership with the private sector, represents millions of dollars invested into new hotel projects and tourist attractions."
Travellers can reach Puerto Rico, a US territory located in the Caribbean Sea, by catching flights to San Juan with carriers such as Continental, Delta Air Lines and Iberia.
