Brits set to spend over Â22bn on 2012 holidays by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Despite many consumers adopting a more cautious approach to holiday planning and budgeting, Britons are set to spend some £22.1bn on trips across the UK and abroad this year, according to a survey commissioned by Sainsbury"s Travel Insurance.

The poll found that the average person arranging to go away in 2012 will spend £765 on their break.

However, more than three-quarters (78%) of respondents said they are planning to cut travel costs and spend less this year.

Of the 45% planning an overseas holiday, 13 per cent will save money by staying with family or friends, 12% will stay in self-catering accommodation and 10% are considering all-inclusive packages.

The research also found that some 6.8m people are planning to book their trip before the end of February 2012, compared to the 13.4m who intended to do so in the same period last year.

Sainsbury"s Travel Insurance manager David Barrett said: "It appears that more people will delay booking their holiday this year, presumably hoping to secure a better deal and the majority of us are aiming to reduce our spending money too."
