Hvar, Croatia one of Lonely Planet"s destinations for 2012 by Cheap Flights Booker UK

The island of Hvar off the coast of Croatia has been singled out by Lonely Planet as one of its top locations for 2012.

Tom Hall, a spokesman for the travel guide publisher, referred to the destination while speaking about the factors and trends that contribute to the popularity of certain places at particular times.

He highlighted the significance of a sense of excitement travellers have after coming back from a trip, with Lonely Planet often hearing from returning writers and contributors encouraging the company to give more coverage to certain countries or regions.

"Hvar in Croatia is a classic example of this," said Mr Hall.

"They say "it"s a really fantastic place, you should be talking about it a bit more". It"s one of our regions for the coming year."

The travel expert also highlighted Vietnam and Cambodia as examples of destinations that are currently generating a lot of interest and identified Sicily as an underrated holiday option.

In Lonely Planet"s Best in Travel 2012 guide, the publisher recommends cities such as London, Santiago, Hong Kong and Orlando, as well as various countries, regions and experiences.
