Kennedy Space Center Breaks Ground On Space Shuttle Exhibit

Kennedy Space Center breaks ground on space shuttle exhibit by Cheap Flights Booker UK

The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Orlando, Florida this week hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the future home of the space shuttle Atlantis.

Scheduled to open in summer 2013, the $100m (£64.8m), 65,000 sq ft exhibit will give guests a unique vantage point for a close view of the craft.

It will also tell the story of Nasa"s 30-year space shuttle programme through a range of hands-on, interactive displays.

This week"s groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Bill Moore, the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex"s chief operating officer, and featured special guests including tourism industry representatives and astronauts.

Mr Moore said: "Today marks the start of a new era in which this magnificent ship, Atlantis, which has travelled to space and back an astounding 33 times, will remain docked in her home port, displayed in all her glory."

He went on to describe the new exhibit as the "crown jewel" in a ten-year masterplan to enhance the visitor complex.

Admission to the attraction includes a tour of the space centre, screenings of 3D IMAX movies and access to the US Astronaut Hall of Fame.
